    Help parasites!!!
Well about three weeks ago we took Khans poopie into the vet for a screening.
They were trying to call Dans phone for three weeks but he misses just about every one of his phone calls. They get a hold of him today and told him Khans got some sort of parasite. The young vet tech was cluess on snakes and what type of parasite he had. She told Dan it is Nematode something or another.

Anyone know what this is? she told him he would need a product called panic rid or something like that. The vet was in surgery when I called so now Im playing the waiting game for his phone call....
help me out if you can. I just wanna know what it is, how he got it, how to treat it and will Khan be ok...
    Thanks!

Wow....at the very least, you have some great customer service from your vet! Most would have given up after a single missed call or two.

Hopefully Becky (SatanicIntention) will see this soon...she's our resident expert on such things. I'm sure Khan will be ok!

Have you read through this thread:

I don't know if any of it applies to your situation, but there is some excellent information in there about internal parasites in general and how to treat them. At the very least, it might ease your mind with some knowledge until you can talk to the doc and pin down exactly what sort of parasite you're dealing with.

Was the med Panacur, perhaps? Kashmire was treated with it for 3 types of strongile parasites. Two doses spaced 2 weeks apart when I first got him.

    Thanks Judy!

I talked to my vet and he said typically you can find Nematodes just about anywhere. There are many specie of nematodes and which one Khan has isnt clear. He said in a small snake its not the best thing to let it go untreated esp since it can deprive it from the nurtients it needs to grow big and strong (not his exact words). In larger snakes it can go untreated but would you really want to?

We're gonna have to take Khan it on tuesday (they say one or two days after they eat is best to treat the parasites). The product we're gonna use to treat the parasite is called Fendbendazole(Fenbendazole is a member of the benzimidazole group of anti-parasite medications) and we will give him one dose (in accordance to his weight) and then two weeks later.

    Exactly!
Panacur is the name brand of the medication.

Its like if your a snake owner your damned if you do and damned if you dont.
You can not ever take your snake to the vet, they live with parasites and then die at 1 year old for 20 years old.OR you can take them into the vet and drop the $66 dollars for a check up and poop test and then get stuck with the fact your snake is infact infected and then you know the right thing to do as a responsible pet owner is to cure it and there goes another $50. Ya know what I shouldnt be complaining....if I was someones pet I would hope they would stick their neck out for me and get me the medication I need! Its better to know know then to lose Khan in a month or two and not know why!

    Now heres my second question....

Do I tell the place I bought Khan from that he is infact a host to parasites and most likely so are the rest of there Balls?
Do you think they would do anything?

I told the people that I got Kashmire from that he had them and they treated the rest of theirs. I knew other people that also purchased theirs from them, and theirs tested negative.

Wow, your vet is expensive! I spent $2 per dose for medicine, $15 for the office visit and $18 for the fecal.
