    Strange Bugs or mites?
I just happened to notice a strange bug in one of my water bowls today. So I started looking around and found a few more in other tanks. But heres the thing. What I have is definetly not your typical "black dot" mites that are dark and full of blood. I looked at every animal under a microscope and a high power light and couldn't find a single one on a snake or lizard.

The one that I found alive was clearly visible by the naked eye and moved very fast and was jumpy like a flea. It was also very light in color and when I crushed it there was no blood.

I went ahead and cleaned out every cage and sprayed the animals with reptile relief. Unfortunately I dont have any provent a mite, I'll have to order some tomorrow. Any ideas on what these could be? Should I treat it like typical mites.

What kind of substrate are you using? They may have come in with that, depending on what it is and where you get it. Or perhaps fleas on the rodents if you buy 'em live?

I don't know if Proventamite treats fleas or other buggies...but I don't know much about bug control at all. LOL

I use a variety of substrates but I am very careful. I cook all substrates at 300 degrees in an oven for a solid hour before they go in a tank. All of my snakes eat frozen but my geckos eat legless crickets and meal worms. I know that you can transfer mites from a reptile show or pet store but I always try to be careful. Its just wierd cause they dont look like typical mites.

Proventamite will take care of just about any insect.

    Hehe...there ya go!

Sounds like a mystery to me...but bugs are bugs...and unless I specifically invite them into my house, they must be evicted! LOL
