    Adult male size, viv size.
We've had Monty now for about 8 months and he is probably just over a year old. Looking at my avatar in this forum reminds me of just how much he has grown!
As of today he measures about 84cm and weighs 740g (both very approx as he wouldn't stay still!)
How big do males get on average?
His current viv is 39x45x36cm - I know going too large is worse than too small for a snake's health but I get the feeling that it is getting a bit too small now - does anyone have any views on that?

The general rule of thumb on size is the snake length should be less than the length + width of the enclosure.

So right now, Monty is at the maximum size for his current enclosure. I think most folks here will say the snake can be a bit longer before upgrading to a larger enclosure, so they can provide their comments. =)

Thanks - sounds like something for a few months time then.
Just how big does an average male get?

Actually, the rule of thumb is the length times the width of the enclosure. In other words, a 4' x 2' cage would be enough space for an 8' snake.

So my current viv could house a 1.7m snake? Would be a snug fit i think

Yes, it could. And while I myself tend to want to provide more room if at all possible, from everything I've seen and read, BP's especially, do very well in snug quarters.
