    Fish eating snake?!
I have a friend who swears to me that her ex had a snake that ate live fish put into its bowl.
Are there fish-eating snakes that are kept in captivity?

Or do I need to tell her that she is crazy?

Garter snakes will eat goldfish and minnows if you provide them. And I'm sure there are other small snakes that do as well. I'm not well edumucated on the smaller colubrids. LOL

That's correct. Garter snakes eat feeder fish. Sorta cool actually to see.

The first snake I ever had was a garter snake...he'd be hiding on one side of the tank, and I'd put live fish in the waterbowl....he's "go swimming" and eat them up like crazy...it was very cool to see.

Well, she did say it was a big snake, so I can call her crazy for that. lol I think her fear of snakes exaggerated its size in her mind.

LOL...well, "size" is definitely relative when it comes to snakes. There are species of water snakes that can get fairly large, and since they are water snakes, I would imagine they eat fish, too....but without doing some googling that I don't feel much like doing at the moment, I can't say anything useful about them. LOL

Yes, like others siad, garter snakes are good at catching fish...I used to have a big female as a pet when I was a kid. She would coil her whole body inside the water dish, then "go fishing" for the minnows crowded in the small area of water in the middle....smart snake!! Oh, and BTW, did you know some snakes eat crickets as well?
