    enclosed rack system???
I was wondering if anyonw has thought of this or built one. my main problem is that i don't have a room that i can turn into a herp room...and space is limited...especially with me moving back in with my parents for a year while i go to school. but i have room for like a 4'x4'x4' rack system. and knowing my dad he will not keep the heat where i need it. so the thought entered my mind about building an enclosed system.

now i have the basic princibles of the system down, but i'm just sceptical that it won't work...any insight will be greatly appreciated.

All you'd need is a normal-style rack with a space heater on a thermostat in that room. Heat the room to about 78-80 degrees and the snakes should be fine. 78-80 in the room with a hotspot of 94 in the cage, ambient temps in the snakes cage shouldn't go below 80-82.

i wish that it was that simple...to just put a space heater in. but you don't know my dad...he will not go for that...plus i have a little brother and a nephew that coould tip it over if i wasn't there or burn themseleves on it. plus i'm sure he will say that it costs too much. and i know if i can build a rack system and inclose it, it will keep the tempature a lot better than say the space heater. cause it will be insulated on all sides, have the heaters in, a fan to circulate air...so on and so forth.

you can pick a small heater for 20-40 bucks. if you are thinking about a totally enclosed box? the snakes need ventilation and fresh air just as much as heat/humidity.

1500 watt space heater with 2 levels of power, 750 and 1500, adjustable knob thermostat and tip over shut off function

$18 when I picked mine up

just responding about the expensive space heater part.

A completely enclosed rack will be tricky, ventilation? means you have to keep a constant heat on to heat incoming air

The best way to do a self contained rack would be to have 2 heating "pads" one for the cool side and one for the warm side, and adjust those as needed to keep air temps constant.

I don't see what the problem with just putting a space heater near the rack would be...do you have any walk-in closets around the house that you may be able to take over?
