Ball pythons and Preggie women? question!
hello, i'll tell u guys a secret!, no one should know about this. but my wife is pregnant!! "shrugs". dont tell everyone :P :D :D :D :D

well, she's in her 1st month. so, alot of people telling her that the snake might be harmful for her "healthwise". im not sure, she did bring out the point that "snake eats mice!, mice are bad!!" argh!!.. i did tell her that the snake is quite clean "Except when they poo". she was like "you put her on your body and then i come in contact with your body" ... lol

well, im not asking you guys to calm her down, but i need facts. is it harmful? should i take her out of the living room and put her in another room? or give it to someone else until we have a child?
i may have to ask her to read this post. so be honest and dont side with me :P

I am pregnant, and not at all worried about taking care of my snake. I wash my hands very well every time I clean the cage or handle her, and make sure everyone else who handles her does the same. The mice/rats that your snake is eating are not running all over your house leaving poop everywhere, so you don't have to worry about that.

I wouldn't worry about it. As long as she washes her hands if she handles anything snake related, you should be fine. I can't think of anything that would endanger a pregnancy.

Oh and congrats! The only thing you should be worried is the upcoming hormonal swings, and the wild cravings. The phrase, "Yes, dear" and "Whatever you want" come in REAL handy. ;) Good luck.

Not that I have children, but you would take the same precaution as with having any animal as a pet when pregnant - wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap and make sure the pet's surroundings are kept clean.

I mean, not really any different than normal. =)

Hehe, I've actually seen pictures on Bob Clark's forums of a guy's extremely pregnant wife hanging out on the couch with their burmese, watching TV. =)

I've gotta go with everyone else here. There's more danger to a pregnant woman from a cat's litter box than there is from a snake or the mice it eats. If y'all have a cat, don't let her go anywhere near the litter box or any other place the cat may use for a bathroom. But the snake.....no worries! :D

And congrats!!! Is this your first child?

My aunt has lupus, and our one cat princess has colitus (sp) and since my aunt has virtually NO immune system, she caught a virus from princess not 1,2 or 3 ... But 4 times! Almost one right after another. The doctor even said because of what the cat has, if you are pregnant or have something to lower your immune system, it can be rather nasty to deal with. My aunt had to go to the hospital 2 times. So be more careful with a cat then a snake. Also, congrats!

That's what I've always heard. Cats can be more "dangerous" for pregnant women than snakes.

I would have thought a sale at a chocolate shop would be more dangerous, but then what do I know...;)

Only if that is the current craving. I never craved chocolate myself, but if you had a hushpuppy you were my best friend!!!! You never know what it's gonna be with each woman and each pregnancy.
