Re: OHhhhhhh GOTTA SHARE!!!
OooOoo congrats! Yah, I would say retained eye... get the humidity up and the next shed shall be el perfecto :) I dont like the whole scotch tape thing, but you may get some recommendations for it.
it's always exciting to get a new member, especially one that's free! ;)
Now, where are those pictures?????
Re: OHhhhhhh GOTTA SHARE!!!
Nice score! Only.. why wait for quarantine to be over for the vet visit? Typically it is better to get new snakes to the vet for a checkup sooner rather than later!
Re: OHhhhhhh GOTTA SHARE!!!
Congrats on the new snake! :taz: I have to agree with April(Shelby). Take the bp to the vet as soon as an appointment is available :)
Re: OHhhhhhh GOTTA SHARE!!!
Congratulations! I know you must be so excited! I also agree - vet visit doesn't have to wait for quarantine to be up! :pinkele:
Re: OHhhhhhh GOTTA SHARE!!!
I would probably give that guy a nice warm water soak straight waway, to get that shed off and possibly that retained eyecap, so you can start off on a good foot when the vet sees him. Is he thin? or does he have good weight on him?And congrats!!! "FREE" is my favorite four letter "F" word.....I personally have eight ball pythons, and out of those eight, three of them were free, and one I only paid $10 for!!! yayyyy!!!!!! Oh, and warm snakey welcome squeezes to the forum!!!! you've come to the right place.....
Re: OHhhhhhh GOTTA SHARE!!!
Congrats on the rescue!!! As far as the lights go, if they aren't for heating the cage, I would get rid of the incandescent bulb, and keep the fluorescent one.
Re: OHhhhhhh GOTTA SHARE!!!
Congrats!! Sounds like an exciting deal!
I was gonna suggest taking him to the vet right away, rather than waiting for the quarantine to be over...but that's already been said...a bunch! LOL And I was gonna say keep the flourescent bulb, too....but that has been said also.
Not much left for me to say but Congrats! :P

Re: OHhhhhhh GOTTA SHARE!!!
Thx everybody!!!
Fred's weight is good. S/he's pretty bulked up so even tho the guy was feeding two mice at a pop, the snake's in pretty good condition. (He's big enough for a small-med rat. Next feeding I'll be trying the FT rats. If not FT, I have some rat babies that would be the right size.) The main reason I was holding off on the vet visit was for the one week no-touchy thing. Sorry...I didn't word my earlier message well enough. Quarantine will probably be the month to six weeks, but after the ONE WEEK of no handling, Fred will be at Dr. Fletcher's office. Which works out, because that's the earliest I can book w/Dr. F. He's the only reptile/exotics vet around here.
What little I know and have learned (thanks to this WUNNERFUL! site) I figured it's many spectacles over the eye. I'm not fond of the tape idea but I've got the temps on, & I'm boosting up the humidity. (Dork didn't have any thermometers or hygrometer in the tank but said he didn't have any problems. HUH?! < How'd he know? *grumble grumble grumble* :tricho: > but I know what the temps and humidity are NOW.
Even added another hide for the COOL side and as I change the bedding, I'll be going from the desert gravel stuff to the aspen, so that should help. Only thing is, it's MUCH easier to see the poo and urates on this stuff, as compared to the others' homes. PPTHTHTHTHTHT :zerb:
It's still exciting. I just wasn't expecting it to happen so soon. :D But hey! I'm NOT complaining. Free IS a cool four letter word. :)
