growth ? regarding lenth and girth
I searched the posts on growth but couldnt come up with an answer to my question. Sorry for yet another growth question, but i need to know. here is a little heads up on my BP.

I have had my BP for 10 months now. phantom only wieghed 60 g when brought home so cant be anymore than 11 months old i am assuming. phantom measured 17 " and now after 10 months has reached 36" or 3 feet and wieghs just over 600 g. From what i have red about the growth of other BP's, phantom is doing just fine. 19 " over 10 months is almost 2" and more than 50 g per month. my question is do they tend to grow in legnth in there early age and then grow more in girth later on. I am asking this because i have seen older BP's that where not much longer than my BP but they have a lot more girth than my BP.

    thanks

What I've noticed, is that they will have a bit of a growth spurt and seem slimmer. Then they bulk up a bit, and then another growth spurt. If you are gaining 50grams a month you sound like you are doing fine. ;)

Is it really normal for them to grow so much so fast? I figured it was going to take 2 or 3 years for my male bp to reach full grown. I dont know when he was born due to cirvumstances surrounding my adoption of him, but as of last week he is about 24 inches. (havent gotten a small scale yet to keep track of his weight either.)

so if my best guess is he was 3 to 5 months old when I got him, what is a normal size for that age? (I've had him since end of February)

Reptiles grow fast during the first stages of their life.....it is a survival adaptation. The less time you spend being 'small' in the wild....the less time things can eat you. A 600 gram ball python is no where near full grown....neither is a ball python of 2 years....but they can reach adult size at around 2 years.

Ball pythons grow at different rates....I have two ball pythons that were hatched only a few weeks apart....one is around 400 grams....the other is around 700 grams. It all depends on the animal. As long as your animal is now being underfed, they will grow at their natural rate.

thanks for the info tig. i havnt noticed much of a growth spurt as far as girth in the past couple months. seems as though phantom has stayed the same girth for a few months now at the least. i will keep watch for a growth spurt in girth soon.

    cheers
