Totally New Path

I've been debating it for a long time, and I've finally changed my major from English Ed to Bio-Ed. I've always loved Bio and I definitely want to teach. So...I figured I'd share with you my game plan and ask if any of you had suggestions.

I'm going to get my Bachelors in Bio-Ed and then my Masters and PhD in Herpetology.

Do you know of any schools that offer that? Any zoos that're looking for apprentices in the next five or so years? Suggestions, concerns, etc. Please. ^_^

Are you looking to stay in any particlar area? I would concentrate on finding your undergrad school first. (obviously since that will be your starting point) Then you can ask your professors to help you with furthering your path. :D

If you are interested in herps as a career....check out this site: http://www.ssarherps.org/ click on the Careers section on the left...it is good info.

These are the people that do the research on R&A.....and if you have a PhD....you have about a 99.9% chance of doing research.

If you want to work as a care keeper/ reptile educator in a zoo u might only need an MS.....

I'm two years into my Bachelors and have most of my gen ed credits taken care of so I can primarily focus on Biology and then Educational courses so I can get my teaching done.

Personally speaking, I'd like to get my teaching degree for a while, maybe, and then start working at a zoo or going further and getting my vet degree.

That, and I'm really great in Chemistry so I was debating on, further in my life, working to milking hot snakes and other venemous snakes. My other side dream is to start breeding balls on a regular basis. That translates into needing money to start and continue breeding.

And if I've missed something...I'm exhausted. So pardon me.

You could try OSU :D Seriously, though, we have a really great Bio Dept. and I know that you can start up your own research if they don't have a program already started in your field. Plus, the campus has close ties with the Columbus Zoo (home of Jack Hanna) and I know a lot of students do research out there.
