    question about hides
i just brought my first bp home on sunday. she has two hides, one is the perfect size for her and one is too big. i put the small one in the warmest spot, and the bigger one in the middle where it is not as warm.

she has explored the whole tank, and knows the small hide is there, but sleeps all day in the big one! she comes out at night and climbs around for a bit, but then goes right back to the larger hide.

is this okay? can snakes have individual preferences?

yes, each snake can/will be different, just like us. as long as the entire cage is setup right with the correct temps the snakes will thermoregulate themselves. there is a good caresheet on this site also. try switching the hides if you are curious.

It is also fairly common practice to use two identical hides. Snakes seem to select security over the proper temperature, so they may not properly thermoregulate if they like one hide type over the other.

You might think about saving some worry, remove one of the hides and replace it with a duplicate of the other. =)
