    You have it "probed" by an experienced vet or keeper. That is the safest and most sure way to tell.

    You can also pop a snake. (although I'm still struggling with this method, but I'm determined to figure it out!!!)

    I wonder how many vets out there will pop. It seems like probing isn't 100%, for example I have a supposed female that probes to 5, but I haven't had her popped. It would seem that popping would be more accurate because you can actually see the equipment instead of guessing at an "iffy". :confuzd:

    And what they all said...probing or popping. Popping is more effective when snakes are young before they gain the muscle control which makes it less effective and possibly harmful to the snake.
