Trying to figure out some terminology
I was reading through RDR's clutch info and I keep coming across the term "sib" and I at first thought it was talking about sibling, but that can't be the case. Not when he makes a list like.
    05 gob marker male # 4
    05 gob marker female # 2,3,4,5
    05 gob marker sib male # 2,3
    05 gob marker sib female # 3

If it ment sibling then why list them seperate like that. So I deduced it doesn;t mean sibling so what does it mean so I can follow along better while reading these things. Thanks everyone.

Then why list them differently? Also After posting this I was reading some more and it seems that he is calling the sibs the normal looking snakes that hatch from co-dominent trate crossings. Does this sound right? It seems like he gives the normal looking snakes out of his Lesser crosses the sib notation. Just trying to do some absorbing while I drool over the 35000 butters and lessers. LOL Oneday I will talk the wife into letting me start with some Albinos. Oneday. Till then I read and dream. Why did I have to marry a woman that refuses to take risks. Makes me so mad sometimes I could screem, but thats another story. Thanks Daniel.

There is still a question whether or not the lesser sibs carry a dilute gene or whether they're just normal. It's the same reason you'll see Pastel Sibs and Spider Sibs... they're probably normal, but there have been some co-doms that may have passed a little something secret on to the normals in the clutch. Platties are still a ways from figuring out.

You'll see on RDR's page that Lessers from Lucy's or Platties are extra... that's cause he THINKS that maybe the platty passed something dilute on to the lessers in the clutch.... and maybe the normal sibs too.

    Who knows at this point...

I'm glad this was brought up as I find it really interesting as well. My interpretation is that siblings are more special than just normal looking snakes that are "het for X", but it could be limited to the genes of platties and butters, which seem to act differently than other genes, such as albino.

Maybe Adam might see this thread and share any insight he may have...=)

Re: Trying to figure out some terminology
I don't think Ralph uses the terms "sibs" to indicate that he knows there's something special or unique about them. Just that there is a chance there could be....so he designates them as a "sib" to a lesser in a platty-daddy clutch (for instance) because he doesn't want to just sell them off as normals and have whatever mystery gene they may be carrying to get lost. Whether he keeps them or sells them, he's very interested in seeing if they'll prove out to be anything special. So it makes perfect sense to me to designate them the way he does and to sell them for more money than a normal from say...an albino/het clutch.

the term 'sib' is fairly common....if you spend alot of time on the classifieds, you will will see the term used alot. Ralph Davis uses that to list his normal siblings to projects that that they might have some importantance. You will also see people list pastel 'sibs', spider 'sibs', etc. in ads....and for these people it is kinda a marketing technique.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was just a little pizzled when I was reading through RDR's pages. I felt a little new wrinkle form in my brain. Thanks guys/gals for answering these newbie questions.
