THIS is TOTALLY COOL!

This helicopter is currently flying in Afganistan. My understanding is that the crew that flys this thing did this to it!

painting vehicles (airplanes/helis/etc) is VERY common and dates back to WW1 when they would paint names, pictures of chicks etc onto the planes.

Nice try, but inaccurate. The helicopter is actually a very old shot of a Hungarian chopper, it was not armed, never flew missions, but was used for air shows. Not US, Not in Afganistan, not even a armed chopper for military use.

I was gonna say it kinda looked russian to me.

Yeah, its actually a Russian "Hind" attack helicopter. they were used extensively in Afghanistan when the Russians invaded back in the 80's. Unfortunately for the Russians, the Afghanis got very good at shooting them down with American made Stinger missles. Soldier of Fortune magazine at one time offered a $1 million reward to anyone who could steal one and get it to an American base for study. As far as I know, no one ever collected.

My hubby has seen that one in person. He says its a Russian 'copter that was bought by an individual and painted to look that way. It hires out to air shows and may do some contract work for governments or private businesses....whatever that means. LOL
