Uromastyx Pics-- DU Watch Out!!

We got our first Uromastyx today. Wife fell in love with him over a month ago and I finally broke down and got him for her. We haven't decided on a name yet. Here he is. I still have to find out what sex he is.

Uromastyx are such neat critters! You're has some great colour! Hope you and the family enjoy!

Actually the pics dont show i much, but he is black. The colors you see on his back are yellow.

Yeah, that's what I like. I've seen a lot of them that are lighter colored with dark markings, but I really like the light on dark combo yours has. Enjoy!

I think Manix (our Uro) has a respritory infection. His temps are around 110. It is very dry in the cage. He is getting white crust around his nostrils. We have no water in the cage, nor do we mist. He has had only mustard greens with some minerals sprinkled on them so far.

How's Manix doing? Has the RI cleared up?

The white around his nostrils is salt. Its normal...

As far as temps, get them up a bit higher. I keep mine at 130 in the basking area. Feel free to ask any questions!

By the way, no water is necessary for them. They will get all they need from the rinsed fresh vegetables they eat daily. Also, you should feed a bit more varied diet (if he will eat). Mustard greens, turnip greens, dandelion flowers (if they have been pesticide free for over a year), carrots, squash, cactus (the food type sold in grocery stores). You should be sprinkling his food with calcium powder twice per week and with herp vitamins twice per week. Also, he needs to have a UVB bulb or natural sunlight otherwise he could develop Metabolic Bone Disease. There are some good care sheets on the internet but I think the best is:

Also, I keep mine on bird seed instead of sand. Minimizes the risk of impaction and it is healthy if he eats it (mine regularly eats bird seed). Also, I give him the pelleted, rainbow colored, fruit smelling bird food a few times a week. He eats it like crazy.

I found that out right as I was about to call the vet. I am also getting another light to bring his temps up even more.
