Re: Day/Night Cycle Question
I could be wrong, but from what I've been reading and what others been saying on this site, A day/night cycle is not neccessary as far as heat, and since they are nighttime critters they don't need light. I'm a night shifter, so when I'm home I'm chillin in front of the computer in the snake room and he doesn't care, he'll come out at night and explore his cage and all.

My heating is fine I just want to know how to give them a proper day/night cycle because I have such a dark room and don't use any bright heat lights.
Also where I could find an affordable proportional thermostat for my bulbs and heat pads.

Natural light is fine unless you're breeding. When you have adult BP's, you should follow a 14 on 10 off for most of the year and slightly reduce the days when the days are getting shorter during the fall...
But other than breeding, there is no need to provide a day/night cycle... They'll get the clue from the sun. :)
Re: Day/Night Cycle Question
the 2 most popular proportional stats are helix and herpstat. you can get info/products for them at

I don't get much light in the room and I do want to breed.

Re: Day/Night Cycle Question
Or you can get a digital timer from Matt @ www.mgreptiles.com and then hook it up so the bulb goes on in the morning and shuts off at night.
Re: Day/Night Cycle Question
If I'm going to breed let's say next year, do they have to have day/night cycles ALL YEAR long or just during cooling and breeding season?
Also how do you do this if all your BP's live in racks and don't have acess to natural sunlight?
