Yay! Convinced the hubby...
I managed to get the hubby to agree (after a bottle of tequila and some "aspirin") to let me spend some of our tax return money on some hets!
My question is, should I wait for the next show in april? Are the prices incredible or what? Obvioulsy, there's the "you get what you pay for" saying, but do reputable breeders lower their prices for shows? kk thanks guys
Re: Yay! Convinced the hubby...
I guess it would depend on which show you're waiting for and which breeders would be there. At the shows with the really big breeders, you never know what sorts of deals you could find.
I was at one once in Virginia and I THINK it was Ralph Davis' table (but I may be mis-remembering that) and he was offering a ONE TIME special for that particular expo. A 1.1 pair of 100% double-het for snow for $1500! I just about fell over and would have whipped out my checkbook right then and there....except my husband would have killed me. :( But I'll bet SOMEbody went home a very, very happy camper that day.
Anyhow...if it's a good show with people you know you can trust (anyone can call a normal looking snake a "het")...it might be worth the wait. And then if you don't see anything there that you want, you can always check online after the fact.
Re: Yay! Convinced the hubby...
Check out the show website, and then lookup the vendors that are scheduled to attend. Then you can check them out beforehand, and if you find something you gotta have you could just pick it up at the show. *shrug* Just a thought.

Re: Yay! Convinced the hubby...
I just went to a show last weekend. Considering I paid $110 for my ball from an extremely reputible breader and she was captive bread and I can contact him any time for help the... the same snake was $35 at the show and they claimed to be captive bread as well. I handled a few and they seemed to be as docile as our little girl. I guess it may be harder to hold them accountable if there is something wrong but I've never bought one from a show only supply items. I tell you what though... That on line feeding store was there... can't recall the name. I got my balls fuzzy rats for 1/3 the price I was paying at the guys store I bought her from. Granted I had to buy 20 at a time but I just went home and air sealed them with my "sealer" and popped em in the freezer. Dinner for 5 months for a fraction of the price.
Re: Yay! Convinced the hubby...
my advice is to really shop the breeder. i'm not against finding a deal, but the majority of the time if it the price is way low or the cheapest you can find, there is something up! get with a breeder you can trust and talk to them. i would pay a little more for good service, rep, and after the sale advice/help. and alot of breeders work out good deals with repeat customers.

Re: Yay! Convinced the hubby...
quality of care is sooo important to me. so i would def. check out the breeder first...
that said, a nice deal is always sweet... but not if it comes with a heafty vet bill afterwards :(
Re: Yay! Convinced the hubby...
I was definately going to go with a rep. breeder, I was just wondering about the Rep. breeder AT the show, and his prices fair compared to normal online prices :) New York Metro Reptile Expo Main Page
Thats the show...some pretty great breaders there
