Well, although we currently have one BP we liked the idea of raising our own food. So last night we took the family out and got the necessities. Sterilite containers, food, h2o bottles, wire screen, ties, etc...

At home we set up the container, 1.1 mouse. We didn't want to become over populated with mice just yet, and luckily our pet store did work out a deal of bringing in any un-needed extras.

I mentioned to my husband how sweet it is these two mice can now enjoy their own honeymoon, away from the overpopulated cage their were previously in sit back enjoy their meal and just hang out. Of course he quipped in saying "it was more like death row but hey what’s the difference, right!":P

Sounds nice, but it doesn't take long for overpopulation to occur. Even with 20+ snakes, we have trouble keeping our rat population down to a manageable level. Some of those mothers pop out 15 -18 babies at a time!

TIP: Separate your males and females as soon as they are weanable.

Maybe you should think about getting another snake (heheh) thats a lot smaller and eats pinkies...that'll help keep the pop down.King, corn, milk,.......

We are going to be getting two more corn snakes. As far as overpopulating, I am going to try and remove the male as soon as I see the mama preggo. Then I plan on feeding him off. Divide the young approx. 4 weeks. Feed the mama, raise the babies. Meatime purchase what I need. Wait for babies to grow. Start all over. I'm sure their is a flaw in there or something I'm not thinkin' through. The pet store did say I could bring back the "extras".
