    Going to the vet
I'm taking Mufasa to the vet this week, I think he might have RI and he could use a check up. Well how much do you think a check up wil cost, and if he has RI how much do you think the treatment will cost? Oh boy I hope he is OK

Vet charges vary a lot. I go to two different vets who have similar charges. The office fee for mine is $50 (that's the charge you always pay when you take the snake there to see the vet.. if it's a recheck, ie, the snake is seeing the vet a second time for the same thing, it'll be a bit less. $35 at mine)

Cost for antibiotics depends on the type used. Fortaz is more expensive than amakacin.. I think baytril is pretty cheap too, but I had to buy enough to cure a 20lb boa. :) For the big girl it cost between 25-50 for a week's worth of meds. The vet will show you how to give the snake shots for the antibiotics.

My lordy I think I love my vet more and more each day LOL. Our vet clinic charges only $20.00 for the visit plus whatever other procedures you need and offers things like discounts for people that rehab hard to place creatures (like snakes and lizards for example) as well as have a program for lower income families so their pets receive the quality vet care. Our local humane society also offers things like spay/neuter clinics, immunization and microchip clinics for felines and canines.

Give the vet office a quick call. Most any clinic I've ever dealt with will happily give you a ball park figure on their services though of course, long term treatments are always hard to estimate.

Well we are going tomorrow at 2.30. I found out the vet less than a mile away has snake experience. I thought I was going to have to drive an hour

Just a quick suggestion since you have a vet appointment all set up. Take some time and go through threads here and do some reserach online about any concerns you might have with the snake and write down your questions. It's awfully easy to get into the vet and forget this or that or not know exactly what to ask about.

The doc said his breathing tells it is likely a sort of RI. He will be getting a shot of amakacin every 3 days 5 shots total. The price was not too bad $60 total for the check up and the meds.

That's about the same as me. I paid 50 for the visit and like 15 or 20 (gawd, don;t remember now) for the meds, only I had 7 doses. The full bloodwork was 100 dollars though. I've yet to take her back in for her recheck so I don't know what that will run.
