newbie tarantula

I got got a chilean rose hair tarantula and i was wondering if i need anything for heating surcumstances like a heat pad or heat lamp.

Depending on your ambient room temperatures, probably not. If you can keep it above 70 you are good to go - rosehairs are pretty hearty spiders. Ideally 75ish. Keep water available but don't worry about misting as they are from a very arid environment.

If your room temperature happens to be cold enough so that you need a heat pad, put it on the side of the tank. That way if your T decides to burrow to get away from the heat, it won't be burrowing toward the heat and accidently cooking itself. Be very very careful with heat pads and lamps if you need them.

my T like's to climb on the walls of the cage. Will he be fine if i put it on the wall of the cage or no.

It should be okay after a while. Usually that kind of behavior in a terristral T indicates a problem with the substrate or you recently rehoused it. It should settle down after a week or so.

Btw, what is your setup like?

I have a plastic cage. Eco earth substrate. Diminesions-6" high by 6 1/2" wide, and about 12" long.

Okay. If you're using a sponge for watering purposes, ditch it. A shallow water bowl is better. Sponges are basically breeding grounds for bacteria.

You should provide a hide of some sort for the T as well.

What else might help you is arachnoboards. Just like this, but on tarantulas. As far as the climbing goes, sometimes they like to explore new housing, just like a snake. How big is your T? My juvinile still climbs quite a bit.

remember Ts like small places... so don't give them too large of an enclosure. ;)
