Breeding Rats In same room as BPs?
I think I'm going to start producting my own rats. I can easily raise them in the same room as my BPs, but will this confuse them at feeding time? Will they get too used to the smell of rat and not understand when it's time to eat them?
Would it make a difference raising the rats in a neighboring bedroom?
Re: Breeding Rats In same room as BPs?
When I bring a couple rats home the smell isent exactly weak..and im told breeding them isent exactly a faint smell either so I dont think having them in the same room is a good idea at all

Our breeder/feeder rats are in the same room with our ball pythons. I'd rather they were in another room just for more available space issues but I haven't noticed their presence has changed my snakes feeding responses at all. The snakes don't seem to be disturbed at all by the rat's being in the same room as far as I can tell.

I bred rats/mice in the herp room for about a year.. no problems. Space constraints made me move the rodents downstairs.

I breed mice and rats in the same room.As long as you keep thier cages clean you do not have the very bad smell. What you are smelling when you bring rodents home from a pet store is thier sweat mixed with the urine smell. No matter how many rats i transport over to a friends house to feed his snakes they always are soaked from sweating and thier urine. There is nothing wrong with breeding rodents in the same room as your snakes.

I don't think rats sweat.. but they do pee a lot, I will agree there. :)
They should not stink if they have a clean cage.
