Incubator Heating?

I just finished gutting the fridge im turning into a incubator and I want to know the best way to heat it. I have a bunch of 3" flexwatt laying around and I dont know if it will heat the fridge it enough. I was thinking about 4 feet of the 11 inch stuff. What do you think.

you might have to experiment a little and find out if the 3 inch is enough. the 4 ft of 11 in. is plenty to heat an old fridge. how many feet of the 3 in. do you have?

I have around 10 feet of the 3 inch stuff.

since you already have the 3 in. i would try that. 10ft is 100 watts. try it and see!

ok ill try it, its not a huge fridge so I dont think it will take much to heat it.

Ive been talking to Ralph Davis and he says to use 2 heat bulbs with a computer fan hooked up to a rheostat. Has anyone tried this?

I would think the flexwatt would be your best bet, but I'm not a big bulb person. I'd worry too much about the bulbs blowing. :rolleyes:

Thats what im worried about (bulbs blowing) but Ralph said that bulbs heat better than flexwatt, so I really dont know what to use.

Well, I would say if Ralph says to use it, use it. :) I'm fairly certain he knows what he's talking about.

I think it would be something like asking Kevin/Kara something about husbandry/breeding and deciding that something else would work better than how they do it. :)

I was thinking that Ralph was saying that was an acceptable way of incubating eggs, but it's not the only way. I've seen several really nice incubators, and the majority of the ones I've seen are heated with flexwatt. You'll have to take my advice for what it's worth, as I have not incubated any eggs. I have been doing a lot of research into the type of incubator I want, and it will be one heated with flexwatt and a fan to circulate the air. :D
