    my bratty snake!
dexter is shedding... but i had no idea until this morning when i went to change his water. his eyes weren't milky when i fed him two days ago... and of course i left him alone while he digested... but this morning i found bits of skin all over the viv. (and i thought he never moved around his viv!)

i could see him in his warm hide so i opened up his cool hide and VOILA! a nice big poo! his second since i got him in november!!! (about 10 weeks ago since his last poo) so i was pleased to see that. nicely formed... some urine in the aspen... so there i am cleaning it all up and *snap* he comes out of his hide and strikes at me!!! WTF??? what a brat... he didn't hit me but just wanted me to get the heck outta his viv!!!

so i put his cool hide back, popped in his clean water dish (on the warm side to increase his humidity as it was only at 60%) and he's now alone to finish up his shed.

    what a brat eh!!!

I just got the most delightful image of a snake with it's tail curled up holding it's shed up against it's body going "EEK!" like you'd just walked into the wrong dressingroom. :P

I have one snake that just doesn't like to be disturbed during the morning hours. She's hissed at me a couple times. I usually commiserate with her, since I don't wake up happy either. ;) Of course I tell her to stuff it. (Yes I talk to my snakes, and no I don't figure they listen any better than the rest of the family. lol)

Funny enough we have one snake, Rionach, who will eat with her shed literally rolling off her body LOL. We've had her come firing out of her hide on feeding night half-shed, snap up her meal and retreat back to eat then finish the shed. Funny as heck!

Malachi our little male bp is a bit hissy when you first open his tub. We call it his "manly man" attitude. He isn't aggressive, it just seems to be his way of making sure we know this is HIS home and best respect that LOL.

They are all just very unique and I am constantly fascinated by each and every one of them.

well i was just in there and he wasn't being rude to me at all. LOL must have got him at a bad moment or something.

i misted his tank as his shed in just a mess LOL - but the humidity is 70% so he should be removing the rest soon. if it isn't all off by tomorrow,... i'll soak him for an hour ;)

    Re: my bratty snake!
:blahblah: so yesterday i checked on dexter and his shed was still attached on his head and his neck... so into the soaking bucket he went... with the heating pad underneath and some plastic plants in there for him to 'rub' on... after about 20 minutes i brought him out in a towel and gave him a little rub down... back into the water, another rub etc until - working together - we got all the shed off him. :) i'm extremely proud of myself as his head is still something i've been afraid of (remember this IS the first snake i've ever held and was T-E-R-R-I-F-I-E-D before i got him)

so, with great fear and a lot of love... i kept gently rubbing his neck and head to get that shed off... ;)

so now he's all gorgeous and very golden yellow... which i loooove! when his skin darkens i miss the lighter new skin look...

so then i popped a mouse in for him and all he wanted to do was leave his viv! he's discovered that his growing body can reach the top of his viv and without the lid on... he can leave  so he's decided that is what he needs to do!

i put him back into his viv and put the lid on and he said, "well okay if i can't explore the house... i'll eat!" but within about 2 or 3 hours, he was back out... looking at the lid of his viv wondering how to remove it and get out. i didn't let him out cause he's in confinement for 48 hrs after a meal... but he soooo wanted to come out!

it's nice to have a snake (finally) who wants to spend some time out of his hide!

yipppppppeeeee i'm very very pleased :)
