    bp's and there hides
last week i was asking why my BP stayed in its cool hide constantly. So i switched hides, and she then hung out in her hot hide. Someone asked me if the hides were the same size, and one was a lot larger than the other. My Bp was using the smaller one all of the time. So i went and purchased another smaller hide for her. It worked, and she now moves from hide to hide, even throughout the day which she was not doing before. It may be something small, but i bet having the same size hides, and having them so that your BP feals snug in them, may help make any BP feal more secure.

Ball pythons seek out small tight cramped places to hide ... the idea is that if they can jam themselves into something that is touching them on all sides, there is nothing "exposed" for a predator to get a hold of ... makes sense if you think about it.

Exactly right, BP's LOVE to feel secure and surrounded. Its best for them if they can be touching all parts of the hide. My snake is 3 feet long now and she uses a hide that it looks like she outgrew a year ago lol. My mom keeps telling me, "jeez isn't that too small for her, she barly fits in thre." But she loves it.

Yeah my ball is the same..he uses the half log on his hot side but not near as much as my boa uses his half log...all about feeling safe

We just use identical hides on both sides...no preference then...they just move back and forth as they need to since basically it's the exact same hide no matter where they choose to hang out.
