Please help snakes A.S.A.P.- (quick & easy to email)- Timing essential
Got this from ASP (Advocates for Snake Preservation):

This is an important message, so I’ll get right to it. The Louisiana Wildlife Commission is again considering amendments that would strengthen protections for reptiles and amphibians, including a ban on wildlife-killing contests that target them.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity that unfortunately comes with a tight deadline — the hearing is October 22, so emailed comments are due the night before (Monday, October 21).
I’m hopeful the amendments will pass this time. Here are 2 ways you can help make that happen:
https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/e/notoem...1/1f4e7/72.png Email the Louisiana State Herpetologist, Keri Lejeune (klejeune@wlf.la.gov), and let her know that you support proposed amendments to LAC 76:XV.101. She will present these comments at the hearing, where we want to show overwhelming support. Our opinions matter and will be recognized, regardless of whether we live in Louisiana or not. And yes, you need to submit comments now even if you’ve submitted them this spring (she won’t be able to include the old ones). We have suggested talking points and more information on our website.
https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/e/notoem...e3_fe0f/72.png Attend the hearing in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, October 22 at 10am CDT and voice your support in person. There are no virtual attendance options and I’m pretty sure this is why we lost last time — much more opposition showed up at the meeting than support. I’m happy to work with you personally if you’re interested and able to attend, but want help with what to say. Just reply and let me know.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need more information. And absolutely forward this message to anyone you think might be interested in helping.
Take care and thank you, for all you do for snakes, every day!
    Melissa Amarello (she/her)
    Executive Director, ASP

P.S. Please take action now to support reptile and amphibian conservation in Louisiana and end the Snake Rodeo: comments must be received by 11:59 p.m. CDT, Monday, October 21.

Note that all comments will help...you don't have to be a resident of LA...you only have to care about the snakes that live there. ;)

Hey, I just got this update from Melissa Amarello with Advocates for Snake Preservation (ASP)*-
    ________________________________________________________________________________ _
    Howdy y'all,
I have good news from Louisiana: The wildlife commission voted to adopt the amendments, which include the ban on wildlife-killing contests that target amphibians and reptiles. They’re now headed to the state legislature, who has 30 days to act. Not done yet, but as our partner in Louisiana said “a huge hurdle was overcome,” and we’re one big step closer to ending the Lake Providence Snake Rodeo!
Thanks SO MUCH to everyone who submitted comments in support of these amendments — clearly our voices were heard!

So keep your fingers crossed, everyone :D
