a couple of questions on breeding
hi, ive been breeding ball pythons for 12 to 15 years, but im changing over to blood pythons (python brongersmai) so A do you breed bloods similar to ball pythons by placing the female in the males viv and remove him after you see him lock and finish. or B do you put them together once a month, or do you leave her in with him for 3 to 4 months only removing her for feeding and returning her shortly after. and C how many females can you put your male to if you separate them after seeing a lock. unfortunately there`s not a lot of detailed information on blood pythons, there`s plenty of information but not detailed. thanks

    In a little bitty nutshell...

Bloods & short-tails are marathon breeders & you may find them locked up for a day or two upon successful introduction. I pair and separate multiple times throughout the season until snakes no longer show interest.

Female bloods & STPs can retain sperm for over a year, so use caution when rotating out males or pairing different animals if the female hasn't produced from previous confirmed breedings. Males can breed more than one female in a season but many folks don't for various reasons.

It's easy to breed average blood pythons. Good ones take time & thoughtful planning, IMHO.
