I committed the classic "Stupid Keeper Error" this week. I Failed to secure Rex's enclosure after spot cleaning and Rex escaped from his wonderfully insulated, warm enclosure into my very cool basement.

After about an hour of searching, I found Rex wedged under a tool shelf on the cold concrete floor. I thought he was dead when I pulled him out, then I saw a very weak, half-hearted toungue flick. After slowly warming him up for a while, I returned him to his enclosure. Today, he seems fine.

I've bumped up temps and lowered humidity to ward off RI. So far so good.

I figure he was out for somewhere around 24 hours in that cold. I don't think he had a lot longer to go before he would've died.

No matter how careful you think you are - you can't be too careful. Double check. Triple check. Then check again. As Gus Renfro says, "When you put an animal in a cage, you are 100% responsible."

This was all my fault. I was careless and almost lost an animal. Be careful folks.
