    New ball python
So I’m very new to keeping pythons I got my little guy (1 and a half year old) about 2 weeks back and when the breeder handed him to me he was in shed so I had to bump up the humidity in his temporary tank his shed was fine but I’m now struggling to get the humidity back down it’s currently sitting at 73% and had been like that for two days I’ve tried dehumidifiers in the room and a fan I even tried taking some of the bedding out (coco husk)

his temps are all fine but I’m worried about the humidity he keeps switching from hot to cool side daily the bedding has dried out in his warm hide
also where about in the tank do you put the hydrometer probe? I’ve currently got mine in the middle couple of inches from the bedding

73% isn't bad, if anything it's preferable to humidity that's below the average (in fact some argue up to 80% should be the standard, but don't quote me on this). As long as he has a dry area to retreat to and the substrate isn't sopping wet, a little extra humidity won't hurt him. ;)

Thankyou for easing my mind I’ve read so many different things on it The substrate isn’t really wet just slightly spongy I’m getting his bigger tank set up for him so he’ll be in that by next week can’t wait :)

Pics and a brief description of you set up will help us advise you further. This thread will instruct you on how to post them: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...-Post-Pictures).

I don't have any particularly insightful advice for you. Humidity is just water. If you have too much in there, take it out. To do that, you could swap out your water bowl for something with less surface area. Less surface area = less evaporation = less humidity. If that doesn't work, you could change the substrate that you moistened when your bp was in shed with something drier. 73 percent isn't that high, so you shouldn't have to do much. I think where you have the hydrometer probe is fine.

Thankyou I’m going to try taking out some of the damp substrate tomorrow and see if that makes a difference [emoji4]
