    white dot where nostril is?
well, my snake is going into shed so he has been hin his hide amost 24/7 the past week. today i took him out to clean the cage, i had placed him in a box while i cleaned. when i took him out to put him back in his cage, i noticed a white dot where his nostril was, im not sure if there was one on the other nostril also.
    what does this mean?

Is it possible to post a picture? How big was the dot? If it was very small it is possible that it is a snake mite in which case you should treat with provent-a-mite.

It could also be a bit of loose shedding skin.

A third possibility is a bit of dried mucous if the snake has a respiratory infection. Listen to the breathing to hear for gurgles or whistles.

    thanks for the reply.
it was a little litle little big bigger then a period. it really didnt look like a mite. it could possibly be a peice of shedding skin but im not sure. i think my temps were a lil low, i just recently got another undertank heater and things are ok now. im worryed that it might be mucus, i have been worryed he has a respitory infection though i dont hear any noises and there really hasnt been any signs except lifting his head odd at times for about 1 minutes at a time. im going to wait tell he sheds and then i will seriously try n get him into the vet, christmas has left me bone dry for cash.
any other thoughts or ideas on what to do before a vets visit would be appreciated.
    peace

Holding the head up could signal a respiratory infection. They usually do this with more severe RIs because elevating the head helps them to breathe when there is mucous present.

A vet visit is definitely a good idea.. I know how it can be right after Christmas! I had to take my 20lb dumerils boa to the vet today to get a lung wash and culture to find out what antibiotic to use to knock out her RI. You'll feel a lot better when you have a good herp vet take a look at your snake.

Always best to be safe. I have a BP that has had a whistle (no gurgle or any other symptoms of an RI). He is at the vet and staying until Friday so he can be treated for a possible RI. Gotta do what ya gotta do to keep them healthy!

Letting him shed at the vet shouldn't be a problem. Call them and ask, but you need to take you snake in soon to be safe.

I've taken snakes in while in shed. It's not a problem.

I go to two different herp vets. Both charge $50 for the office fee. Antibiotics are generally in the $20-30 range.

I've got a wonderful herp vet. The office fees are supposed to be $50 for an office visit, but he's never charged me more than $15 for an office visit. He also only charged me $2 per dose of Panacur back when Kash had his internal parasites.

But seems to me, I do see $50 as the average for office visits from people who have posted what they have paid.
