I have a five month old male ball python in apparently excellent health. The cage conditions are fine (temp, humidity, etc.). About one month ago I switched him from pinkies to small rats (approx. 50-60 grams). The new rats are only slightly larger than his largest girth. He took the first one and did not appear to have any trouble, but he has not eaten since. When one is offered, he is curious and will smell it and look at it, but will not strike it and will not eat it, either when offered with tongs or left in his cage overnight. I am left with two thoughts: 1) he is just not eating due to seasonal influences; or 2) I need to offer him smaller prey.
Any ideas?
