New Job for me...
HI all,
I just wanted to share that in the past month I underwent a job change...
I stopped working with the CT Humane Society for a few reasons, and after thinking long and hard about it and with the help of my husband, I decided it was better to leave. I was actually very happy, (I remembered what being happy was again) about two days after leaving. So I was and still am very confident with that decision.
But as some of you know I am the main working person in our houshold, so being out of work for too long wasn't really an option. I started looking around at different vet hospitals, but in the meantime we were invited to have a presentation at a local (mom & pop) aquatic fish store. It was their big grand opening weekend. You can find pictures in my yahoo album if your interested:
(look towards the bottom page in the educational presentation folder:

The owner (Derek) was very nice and had heard I was out of work. He asked for my resume and I reluctantly gave him a copy. I really, (I MEAN REALLY) did not want to go back into retail. But seeing as he offered a really good salary (best pay I have actually ever gotten) and he has a really good work ethic, I soon became his right hand man. He desperetly needed a manager, and someone to get his new store organized. So it has actually been alot of fun. The guys I work with are all very nice. It is just fish, and some marine inverts. He is really big into captive bred animals, ecspecialy when it comes to marine. I have been really thrilled in realizing he has alot of the same ideas and ethics as I do.
Anyhow, just wanted to share. If anyone keeps fish please let me know what kind. We have always kept fish, but of course secondary to the herps.
I have been learning alot more abou the aquatic industry, and I can tell you it is just as adicting as herps!!
(I think that rescue we did that included to two Pacu may have spurred some of this..lol)
Thanks
Rusty

Re: New Job for me...
How awesome Rusty! Congrats! I hope it works out wonderfully for you and your family. We have a family-run fish store here and the owner, Sue, takes excellent care of her fish. I got my HUGE oranda goldfish from her, and he's around 7-8 years old, maybe older. Biggest wen I've ever seen on an oranda, LoL
Anywho! Best of luck with it all!

Re: New Job for me...
Very cool! I love fishies. I am too busy with things (oh and 21 snakes) to have many fish (no room either!) but aquatics and marine biology were one of my original loves.
I currently only have a crowntail betta and a brown bullhead catfish that I caught as a 2cm long baby about.. oh.. 6 years ago. His name is Mr Whiskers... except I think it's female actually. Oh well. :)

Re: New Job for me...
Hey great news for you!
People cannot normally work at the Humane for overly long times, not and stay sane. I am sure you did the right thing for you.
The fish store sounds great! And the guy being into captive breds!! Awesome!! I do breed bettas, and seahorses, and have kept stonefish and frogfish(saltwater) and a lot of FW(includeing cichlids), although I must admit my specialty is the seahorses and then the bettas.
Sounds like you are in a great tiem and I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Congrats, Rusty. Do you think you might talk him into carrying Herps, too? Or at least collecting them at home?
