Naming my new Dumeril's Boa

I recently pick-up a new baby Dumeril's Boa (Acrantophis dumerili). Here's a few basic details. The boa appears to be female (as has no visible spears, & no signs of hemipenis). She is approximately 110 grams, & about 18 inches/45-46 cm long. She is approximately 3-4 months old. In her coloration she definitely has normal Dumeril's Boa coloration with some peach & pink tones.

Given those peach colored tones - Here is some names I am considering.

Georgia - because the Peach state, a variety of Peach & female version of George.

Belle - meaning Beautiful (which she is), also is a variety of Peach.

August/Augusta - means Great/Magnificent (which fits), & it is the month I got her in, also a variety of Peach.

Merrill - as it is similar to Dumeril's

How about just "Peaches" ?

I don't know any good peach names, but I will share with you my philosophy on pet names. No common human names! Please don't name her Susan or Margaret. It's confusing.

When someone's talking to me about an animal, I want to know they're talking to me about an animal. If you say you took Rover to the store, I'm not confused. I know you took your dog to the store. If you say you took Billy to the store, I'm going to assume you're talking about a human. Avoid the confusion. Don't use a common human name.

They're usually called "spurs". ;)

As for "peach" names- there's many that don't lend themselves to be pet names, except for Melba, Polly (nope, sounds like a parrot), Madison ("Maddy"?), Honey Babe (don't go there, that's just weird to walk around talking to your snake named Honey Babe :rolleyes:), & Clingstone ("Clinger" would be a good boa name? besides being a fun reference to MASH). I'm sure I missed some though, since there's over 2000 kinds worldwide. :D

No real rush to name- many times I wait to see what a pet's personality "says" to me. I'd sleep on it a bit to see what name feels right to you. You can also look thru a "name dictionary" but those will be "human" type names, though there's plenty of uncommon exotic & foreign names (& with meanings that might work).

I would suggest Flambé... but I think I just saw 'peach' and started wanting some Peach Flambé. More a craving than a name. With a small dish of vanilla bean ice cream on the side...

Okay after looking at many of the names of Peach varieties - I decided to expand my naming lists to peach colored gemstones as well. May be even gemstones which are found in Africa or Madagascar, and that are found in other colors - like brown, gray, gold (yellow), and pink as well.

So here is a new list of a few possible names for her, that I like.

- Topaz - well-known gem which comes in golden yellow, pink, & peach colors (for Imperial, sherry & precious Topaz), brown, gray, white, blue (London Blue) & violet. Topaz has been found in the United States, Brazil, India, China, Southeastern Asia, Russia, eastern Africa, & Madagascar. Note this is one of my personal favorite gems.

- Sapphire - another well-known gem which has a large color list - ranging from white, yellow, pink, orange, green, blue, violet & gray. And it also has been found in many countries around the world including United States, eastern Africa, Madagascar, India, & China.

- Garnet - another well-known gem which is known to come in red, pink, orange, peach, yellow & green. It also is found in several different countries including eastern Africa.

If you want to go with a gemstone theme... have you looked at Peach Moonstone? Taking a somewhat roundabout route, you get to Moon = Luna, usually a fairly good name, and it seems to fit well with your other reptile names.

The problem I have with the name Luna - is that is an astronomy-based name. when I hear it - I think the Moon - not the gemstone or her peach color. Which is also one of the reasons I did not select the Moonstone.

I list Topaz, Sapphire, & Garnet - because of some names of their varieties. Topaz has the best in IMO names with Sherry, & Precious, plus Imperial or Emperor is the male version of Empress (which is also a type of Peach) in addition to the name Topaz.

Sapphire & Garnet each have a couple of good names.

I like Augusta best. The connection with the peach variety tying it to her color and the month tying it to when you got her is great. Plus, it's a very distinguished name. Augusta/Augustus was a Roman honorific title meaning "venerable" or "revered" and used as a title for Roman emperors and empresses. I'd probably prefer it for a Boa Imperator though, since "imperator" was also a Roman imperial title.

Also, since your female BI is named Elena, I think Augusta sounds nice next to it if you ever talk about them at the same time. Augusta and Elena.
