bleeding associated with breeding?
is there ever any bleeding associated with bp breeding? i put a first-time male in with a female for the first time earlier tonight--i don't know her full history so i don't know if she was ever bred before or not. there are a few smears of blood on the newspaper in different places in the enclosure now--not a lot, but just smears of it here and there. when i lifted her tail upward she immediately popped out her goods, so maaaybe they hooked up or she is at least thinking about it? i inspected each of them and saw no signs of injury or anything that looked to be the site of any bleeding. 2 of my other females have had different males in their enclosures throughout the month and i have not seen any smears of blood like i see now, so i'm just wondering if something is up here.
Re: bleeding associated with breeding?
I would advise a vet trip for both.I bred my big girl for the first time last year(virgin) and i never saw even a hint of blood anywhere. The male also was a virgin.Keep us posted
Re: bleeding associated with breeding?
Totally normal.
Were the smears two lines? Or blobs?
The lines would be the male dragging his everted blood engorged hemipenes around the tub and the "blob" of blood is typically from the female.
There's definitely no need to take anyone to the vet .... LOL.

Re: bleeding associated with breeding?
thanks adam, good to know. :) there are just smears, no blobs. so now that i know that the little man has discovered his goods, i just have to hope he has learned how to use them. :D get them off the paper boy and put them to use! (can you tell i didn't get enough sleep last night? :P)
Re: bleeding associated with breeding?
No problem. He's just all horned up and dragging his "stuff" all over. I'm not sure if you can see it, but there's lots of that going on in this pic ...

eeeew, i can definitely see that going on there. :P looks like he's pretty happy about things!
Re: bleeding associated with breeding?
Sorry i recomended the vet visit:oops: .I never witnessed this before in my male or female.
Re: bleeding associated with breeding?
So...does this indicate an unsuccessful attempt by the male then or is it inconclusive as to whether there was copulation?
My male het toffee has locked up with my female het toffee but she's smaller than the other females I've tried him with. Could the size of the other females be a factor? I.E. He can easily coerce a smaller female but not the bigger ones? If he was intimidated by the bigger females I assume that there wouldn't be blood trails? All the above mentioned females have been on the same feeding and cooling schedule The male is 800+ grams.
Thanks

Nope doesn't prove anything other than one of the two of them were trying to get the others attention. I've seen tracks for the first time this year myself. :D
