Natural appearance large snake hides

I am trying to find a natural appearance snake hide that a full grown male ball python (~36") will comfortably fit in. He is using one that is about 12"x8"x3" and tends to lift it up some.

The Exo-Terra extra large cave looks like a good size (like 14x10x5), but I have ordered it from 2 vendors online and each time it had flaky interior and second time polymer even seemed a bit sticky.

Any other options with better look than just plastic rectangles? I am surprised at the lack of easy to find off the shelf options.

I use tortoise hides for my larger boas

I use large sections of bark found in the local woods / parks .. look for a felled tree and peel it off ( it will probably be hanging off already ) . As it dries out it bends slightly and makes fabulous hiding spots


My four young Albino Royals have a few pieces all overlapping in their vivs .

They feed like King snakes so it doesn’t make them nervous at all

Zinc might have a different answer, but I'll give you mine, as I use some tree-bark furnishings & natural branches with my snakes too.

If it's too funky, I toss it, because wood is porous. You COULD, ahead of time, use an animal-safe non-VOC waterproofing sealant to improve the "lifespan" of these items if you want. ;)

Normally, I just wash it off (in water, a bit of mild soap if needed), let it dry, & then spray with the same diluted chlorhexidine I use to clean tanks & all, let that dry without rinsing, & replace in home.

Just remove it then hose and brush it down afterwards ... occasionally a quick spray of diluted F10 and it goes straight back in .
