The Last One
So I'm organizing the snake room. I'm planning on 3 stacks of 3 enclosures each. So 9 snakes in total.
I have 8, and happened to run across the animal shelter in the next county looking for an adoptee for a larger snake.
Here's the email from the animal shelter:

Soooooo this is Tom Scaley, and... he was found as a stray. Definitely not a native snake! Right now Tom Scaley weighs four pounds, but this type of snake can get big... real big. Like, four to eleven feet long, and ~25 pounds big. Tom Scaley will need an adopter who is prepared for his (or her?) specialized care, and eventual large size!! |
When animal shelter bought him out for me to see the first question I get ask is "Have you ever been bit"
What an opening line, But he is a very chill snake, both I and my daughter held him and were totally at ease with him
Here's a quick pic, I'll try to get a better pic of him and his tail when I get the opportunity.
So here is Tom Scaley.... Can any of you Boa guys/gals tell me anything about which Boa he might be?

Boa imperator of some sort. Without lineage from a breeder there’s no telling what’s in its background.

"Found as a stray..." So, have you brought him home yet? or are you still thinking about it? ;)

I ask them what a "Stray" was, Did it mean he was actively roaming around outside or was he abandoned in a rental that someone moved out of.
They didn't know, and it wasn't specified on the report.
Yes he's at the house, that's his quarantine tub in the pic.
He's bigger than Cheyenne, my other Boa. Maybe 4 to 4 1/2'
I'd almost consider myself a snake hoarder, but most of you have a lot more than me :D

Their term "stray" makes it sound like he escaped or was dumped- but who knows? Someone probably changed their mind & became afraid when he got bigger, or their room-mate or spouse objected (seeing the feeding response)- this wouldn't be the first time that happened- or they may have claimed it belonged to an ex-roommate that moved out & was left behind, or gave some other such story. Or like you said, just left behind...:( I'm glad he's got a home now, & no, I wasn't going to call you a hoarder, lol. Nice looking boa, & appears healthy, at least in photo.

"The last one, for sure, guaranteed, maybe, probably." ;)
Still, good on you for getting the poor guy a home. In shelters full of cute and cuddly puppies and kittens, most don't think of the "oddities" that end up there. :(

Well if I could convince my daughter it's time for her to move out and do her own thing, that would free up a second bedroom, and give me room for 3 more stacks of 3 enclosures.............
