Proper thermometer location
So being new to the snake world, my last dance was in 1986. I bought two thermometers, but I’ll be upgrading since I was stupid and bought the wrong stuff. I have a 20ga long, with the “small” 10-20ga Zilla under tank heater. I have a ceramic heater above, but I’m debating changing to the Zilla light/heater. I’m trying to find the best place to place the heaters and humidity detectors. Any help is great. I’m doing my best to make sure his first night is acceptable. I’d post pics, but I’m new and I don’t know the ropes yet

Tapatalk app for your phone or tablet is the easiest for pictures. As for placement of temp/humidity gauges, you really just have to spend a couple days placing it in different locations and calibrating with a temp gun until you feel confident you’re dialed in.

You may only need the UTH if your cool side is 75-80 when your hot side (with the heat mat) is at 85-90. If this is not achievable, then you’ll have to use the CHE on the cool side to raise it to the right temp and keep the UTH on the hot side. You would need a thermostat or some way to control both. The hygrometer/thermometer should be placed with one on the hot side and one on the cool side. DO NOT USE ONES THAT STICK TO THE GLASS. Only use digital ones. They even make some that connect to your phone that last a long time. Also, keep the CHE (Ceramic heat emitter) and don’t get a heater that heats with a light. That will cause temps to drop at night (when it’s turned off) which could make him go off food. Instead I’d recommend having some sort of other light source like a window or lights in your house or a lamp to use as the day/night cycle. I hope this helps!

This is also why most keepers recommend setting your enclosure up and letting it run for a week or two before you put an animal in it. That way you can play around with temps, settings, placement, etc etc. to really dial everything in.
