BEL combos

Hi everyone,

Quick question :

Is there any way to differentiate a Super Butter to a Super Bamboo and a Bamboo/Butter ?

I know all are full white snakes, but I was wondering maybe if some of these pairings would maybe have yellowish spots or other differences.

Not easily or reliably. Black light can help. The amount of yellow is mostly a line thing in the case of those, but Super Bamboo are more likely to have a yellow dorsal stripe.

Sometimes you can hold a black light to them to see pattern. Also I think super butters can have bigger eyes

Also adding to the blacklight crew. That's what I needed to do to differentiate my Mojave/lessers from my Special/Lesser

Super Butter is one of the cleanest BELs, so there should be little to no pattern on them under the blacklight.


And also following up on that bigger eyes mention. That is the one downside to super lesser or butter. You might end up with bug eyes or sometimes different eye issues. Less common now that they're being crossed out more and more, but still can be a surprise.

Another question I would like to ask :

If you pair some morph from the BEL complex that are both het for pied, would a BEL pied still have blue eyes or black eyes ? Could you see patterns using a blue light ?

I can only find one picture of one. I think it probably has blue eyes but its impossible to tell from this pic.

I thought a Super Lesser Pied (for example) would be totally white [emoji848]

Pied is a really interesting morph that does some pretty unexpected things sometimes interacting with other morphs. One of its signature things is condensing pigment. So on a BEL, what tiny bit of pigment is there but difficult to see, Pied is pushing it all up towards the dorsal and head.
