    Rosy Boa Scale/Mouth Rot???
I’ve had my adult male coastal rosy boa for over a year now. He’s exhibited steady growth and sheds with an enormous appetite. Recently he’s shown these brownish parts near his mouth (one side). They seem like sores??? He’s still hungry and active and is in shed rn. Is this scale or mouth rot? If you have any input on what it is or how to help please lmk. I recently moved him into a modified 10 gallon using the iheart geckos conversion kit. It doesn’t offer as much ventilation as a screen lid. I’m prepared to move back to screen lids if that will help. Thanks for your time.

That appears to be "mouth rot" (aka infectious stomatitis) & needs treatment- sooner is better. There is more than one possible cause (various bacteria or even fungal) so correct diagnosis (by doing a culture) is essential to ensure the treatment is the appropriate one to be effective, & before the infection becomes systemic & causes more health problems.

If you need to find an experienced herp vet in your area, this might help: https://arav.site-ym.com/search/custom.asp?id=3661

how would one start a culture? From what I am reading applying a betadine solution would help prevent further progression in the mean time before I could schedule a vet appointment or stop it all together?

A culture is for the vet to do. Yes, you can try dabbing some diluted Betadine on it in the meantime, but it won't likely cure it.

I've also heard mixing salt, baking soda, and water could also substitute for the Betadine solution. is this true?
