    BP stopped eating
    Hello everyone,

My BP is almost a year old. He is on F/t small rats (~40-50 g) He ate consistantly even during winter. But he suddenly stopped eating 8 weeks ago. The husbandry hasn't changed, i've already took him to the vet but he is healthy. Doesn't seem to loose weight. He seems interested in the rat at first but.... And he isn't in shed. Should i just wait?

(Sorry for any mistakes since English isn't my native language)

Assuming nothing has changed before the hunger strike: I would wait, however, I would double check your temps. on your heat sources and temps and make sure they are within normal limits. In addition, since your snake has gotten larger over time...if you are using a thermal gradient (one end of the enclosure at a lower temp than the other) then I would consider adjusting the temperature of the gradient.

Maybe his growth as slowed down now. How often are you trying to feed him? If weekly, wait 2 weeks before offering. If he refuses after 2 weeks, wait 3 before you offer again. Offering too soon just stresses them, & won't help you, especially if his body is telling him it's not time to eat yet.

What is his body weight? It might just be too much food for his size. Be patient- snakes don't usually get such regular meals in the wild as we give them in captivity.

I have 2 males here, both right at 800g who stopped eating about the same time. They just last week both took a meal. No other issues, no weight loss. Some males will do that at breeding season.
