    Skin over nostral?
When I had my snake out today I noticed he has a piece of skin (or something?) over his nostral that's making him "whistle" when he breathes....I'm taking him to the vet to make sure he's totally okay and he doesn't actually have an RI, but does anyone know an easy way to remove something like this? I tried a damp paper towel and a Q-tip, but neither worked, I think I just confused him and got his nose wet =P Thanks!

Snakes often whistle before they shed their skin. Did you notice the snake being 'in the blue' or having a pinkish belly before this? It's a good idea to take him to the vet anyway.. you never know.

Actually, he had just finished shedding when I got him...still a little skin on his neck, even. I'm kind of relieved that it may just be that and not RI, but I made an appointment anyway, better safe than sorry! ^_^

Let us know how it goes! You may want to soak him in the meantime.

Well, the vet checked him out and said he was in great shape, it was probably just the skin that was making him whistle ^__^ In case anyone is curious, the vet actually used Scotch tape to get rid of the excess skin. She said that was a pretty effective way of helping with those annoying little bits of skin that just won't come off after a hard shed, if you're VERY careful (obviously =P). I'm going to soak him tomorrow (he gobbled down a mouse as soon as we got home, so I let him relax for the rest of the night heehee), especially since it's been so dry lately (that's winter in Indiana for you....)

Well, that's great to hear. Doesn't it feel good to know your animal is healthy?
