US Army, being stationed in Germany, taking reticulated pythons?
Hello, I’m a member of the US army I have have just been told I will be getting stationed in Germany. I have two reticulated pythons and while I’m fairly certain they can be imported into Germany with the appropriate CITIES documents (I remember seeing Bob Clark offering to import snakes to Hamm), does anyone know if they could be reimported into the US? I was unsure as I thought there was an import ban, but I don’t know if that is a strict ban on all imports, or if there were exceptions. If anyone has any idea I would greatly appreciate the input.

That's my take as well- if you take them out, they won't be coming back. :(

Well that’s certainly a bummer, so when breeders like Bob Clark attend overseas expos they probably only take snakes that have been sold in advance? Or perhaps have agreements for someone to take the surplus animals that aren’t sold? I’ve reached out to the Feds through the Dept of the Interior but haven’t heard back yet.

If I were in your shoes (& many years ago I was in a similar pair, but not with snakes) I would definitely ask the authorities if there's any way around this, & you'll probably have to be persistent- good luck. :salute:

The snakes have likely been sold to other dealers/distributors overseas. If Bob attends an overseas expo he would be buying only snakes that could be brought back into the US.

You will have to either rehome your retics or find someone to care for them until you return to the US, and then you will need to hope your next US assignment isn't somewhere like Florida or Hawaii.
