    Silver Sulfadiazine Cream
Hi all! I just wanted to say this forum has been amazing and I've been lurking for quite a while. I had a quick question, my girl has a wound that I am treating with SSD cream (vet prescribed). She hasn't gone into shed since I've started, so this question is just for future reference. My question is should I continue to apply the cream when she starts showing signs of shedding, or should I wait until after she's done to resume application? I am not sure if putting it on top of her shedding skin might be wasteful.

    Thanks a bunch!

When a medication of any kind is prescribed by your vet, they're the best ones to ask if you have any questions about using it. Like you, I tend to agree that when your snake is about to shed, it would be a waste, but do ask your vet, as they've seen the wound & would know best.

Thank you! I will be speaking with her tomorrow, but I figured I would try to ask here since my curiosity gets the best of me, lol.

I hear ya! ;) I don't know how bad (or deep) the wound is, or how well the healing is coming along, or if this is the first shed since the injury? Sometimes when a snake sheds it will stick & not come off the wound anyway. So in my mind, there might be a reason your vet will suggest to keep putting on the cream.

Makes complete sense when you put it that way. I really appreciate your honest input! Thank you!

I would continue to apply it. If there is any scarring or scabbing from the wound then the cream will help soften the shedding skin and it will come off more easily.

Silvadene is one of those "good things to have on hand" when you have reptiles, and you can buy it online at Mountainside Medical without a prescription.

Thank you! I definitely intend to keep it on hand after seeing the miracles it's working on my baby girl for any future incidents. :)
