How to properly store snake shed?
so I wanted to keep and store Beans's shed and I have his first shed in a small box but needed a bigger one and when I asked my dad for one he mentioned that when he would have garter snakes (he found a lot of animals in the wild when he was a kid and only took them if they were sick or injured then he returned it to the wild, he even once raised a crow! he makes me think of [a character] from the secret garden which was my favorite book when I was little and it still is) he told me that if I didn't store them properly that the shed could rot overtime and become nasty, so I wanted to know if any of you know how to properly store them?

it censored part of his name but he was the character that befriended a lot of wild animals in the secret garden

Lay out to dry and then put in bag/box/etc. Never had a shed rot in a quarter of a century of reptile keeping

I've stored many snake sheds for some years- many I've shared during "meet & greets" or other programs. I've never seen any issue except once when some moths ate them, so to prevent that, make sure they're tightly sealed up, if not a metal tin with a tight-fitting lid, at least a plastic bag with no holes & closed with a twist-tie.

As mentioned, make sure they're completely dry before storing them, that's all I can think of that might have caused an issue. That or hungry moths like I had once, lol.

You got that right. They left only crumbs! :rofl:Sure caught me off-guard. That's when I lived in the desert- I don't know if that matters? There are different kinds of moths, depending where you live.

Right?! If moths are bad in a certain area I'd have to bring out the dang mothballs. But sadly they smell pretty bad. :salute:

I don't use pesticides at all...not healthy for us, either. Breathing moth balls is bad for us, & also could harm your snakes.

Oh it definitely matters. Where I am, we don't have too many moths but tiger mosquitos are a real pain! I swear.. they could pick a lock if they wanted to. They practically laugh at people wear long sleeves to avoid them. Its even worse that they know where we all live:bow::tears:
