    Dumeril Babies
I recently purchased a nice pair of Dum Babies. They are still really healthy, active, and strong...but they haven't had their first meal yet. I put a live fuzzy mouse in with each of them once a week over night, but nothing. I read some where that their first meal may need to be scented with a frog or a lizard. Is this true? If not and they will soon eat when they are ready (as long as they don't lose any weight) I'll just keep trying every week. The fuzzies don't go to waste anyways...my BCI will eat anything at any time LOL.

    Thanks,

    ~Jim

Sorry I haven't started any baby dums.. can you ask whoever you got them from?

Try a rat pinky if you like.. some snakes don't like mice.

Well, like I said they aren't losing any weight yet. I'll try a rat pinky this feeding day and then I will have to try the scenting trick. Boy what a pain! Oh well. Thank you.

yeah, gotta be careful when you buy... I never buy a snake unless its had at least two meals under its belt.

Baby dums can be picky. May sound goofy but try a couple of pinky mice. Some times baby dums are easily intimidated.
    Good luck!

What is your setup like for them? Baby dumerils tend to cause us to have to adjust to their needs at first them go with what we like. Dumerils like to burrow to hunt so if they are on news paper or another subrate that doesnt allow them to burrow they may not eat. Dum's also will most likely need live prey items at first and be left alone while they eat. Took me 2 weeks to get mine to eat and about a month to get them to eat dead, now I have them on news paper eating dead every time.
