Question about Temps / New AP Cage
    Hello all,
My AP Cage is shipping out this week and I ordered one with an RHP included.

I've never used an RHP previously, so I'm wondering what sort of temp range I should be looking for.

Currently on my tub I have a UTH that shuts off at 87 degrees...and a CHE that I use when required. Ambient Temps stay between 80-84 during the day, and drop into the high 70's at night.

What Temps should I be shooting for on the "hot side" with the RHP?

I have hot side set to 90°F and cool side to 80°F. I am using an AP TO, with RHP as well.

I'm running a few AP enclosures and my RHPs are all set to 82 degrees ambient. I don't have any UTH as I don't see them as being necessary.

Over the years I stopped providing a heat gradience and notices a healthier feeding response so I stuck with it.

Also, the placement of the probe makes a difference. I have my probe as low as possible in the terrarium so I know my BPs are getting the temp that I set on the thermostat.

thanks. I didn't think i could achieve that much of a temp gradient with an RHP. Of course, your cage may be a lot bigger than mine.

I ordered the 3 foot by 2 foot cage....

It also depends on your room ambient temp. Right now my office/snake room stays at about 84 degrees so all the terrariums are around that temp and the RHPs don't even kick on. If you live in a place where it gets very cold, you may have to bump it up in the winter to 90 to make sure the "cool" side of terrarium is properly heated. You'll have to play around with it.

I do highly recommend on getting a proportional thermostat if you haven't purchased one yet. They are a bit pricey, but with proportional feature, the RHP kicks at a certain percentage just enough to keep the temps up. I personally have had the Herpstat thermostats and absolutely love them. They have a lot of different safety features including a probe for humidity, temp night drops and even can turn on and off light feature.

I do have a thermostat that I'm currently using on my UTH...it's not a herpstat, but i heard those were the best to have. I plan on setting everything up for at least a day before I make the move....

If you're going to be using your UTH with the AP, you'll also need an additional thermostat for the RHP.

No, I'm going to ditch the UTH. Just stick with the RHP.

or at least that's the plan.

That's what I would do as well. Keep it just in case, but most likely, you're not going to need it.

Do you think it's necessary to seal an AP cage for a BP?
