nightime handling

hi
bishop has not yet been held at night, mostly like 3pm ish or 5-7 pm. i was wondering if he would be particularly snappy: becouse they hunt at night. is that true?

I find my snakes love to come out at night. They seem just as alert if not more than the day. They might be a little more snappy but I don't know I haven't noticed it.

if you want to go on assumptions, it could be assumed they would be more snappy durring the "day time" as BP's are nocturnal. No one can tell you how your particular snake will react at a given time, every animal is different.



P.S. Your not going to get many responses by being impatient, your second post was within 30 minutes of your first...

We get ours out at all sorts of odd times in the day - but mostly she comes out at night as I don't get to sit down and relax before about 8pm - and she's always been OK so far though she's still a baby at 8 months.


Do they get snappy as they get older? And one thing I've always wondered (as I have a parrot like this) - do they get "hormonals" when they get older?

We normally don't handle our BP's during the daytime hours as much as they are nocturnal and we'd be bugging them during their rest period. I'd expect them to be more likely to be "snappy" during the hours they should be resting. We also don't handle them at all on feeding day before they eat so they know when the tubs open that day....it's lock n load time LOL. Just our routine though with them.

Raz, I know Adam often refers to them having their "teenage" time as being a time in their development when they get a bit more snitzy occasionally. We just adjust our handling to the individual snake, on that individual day for that individual handling session and go from there LOL. Our 9 month old who is normally sweet as can be took a swing at me the other day for no apparent reason (just a jab...didn't bit), no biggie, it happens, she was fine a few minutes later.

Thanks, Jo - that doesn't seem as bad as parrot hormonals ;) when my parrot gets hold of me he's like a bulldog - he won't let go till he's had his chunk of flesh (and accompanying blood) - and if he does let go it's only to try and get another part of me - reptiles seem so much calmer and easier than parrots!

Yep had a Molluccan Cockatoo years ago....big feathered bratty thing he was....like the worst spoiled 2 year old LOL. I'd much rather have a snake!

Ah yes - cockatoos are some of the worst parrots for suddenly getting you - they pretend they're all cutesy, lower their heads "come and tickle my crest" scenario and WHAM! Big black beak firmly embedded in tender human flesh OUCH. They're very needy parrots wanting constant attention.


Mine's an amazon-type bird - at least you can read this type of bird they have reddish eyes and they flash redder (well the pupils dilate) when they're about to attack or if they're over-excited and want to play - you just have to guess which it is :hmm:

Same with me - give me a reptile anytime!
