raising humidity

i was wondering whats the best way to raise the humidity level in my tank? and also if its safe for the snake and for my house to run a heat lamp all day?

Heat lamps suck the humidity out of the air. If you can get away from them, that will definitely help with the humidity. Other tricks are to put the water bowl over the hot side of the enclosure and to use bigger bowls of water (maybe even two?) A humidifier is another option. Hopefully that will be enough to boost your humidity to 50-60%. I hope that helps.

Raising humidity is hard with a heat lamp running (I had to find that one out the hard way LOL).

Depends on the type of enclosure you are using what might be some good ideas so if perhaps you could describe it a bit for us.

i have a 10gal tank with two hid spots, one on each side. and a big water bowl in the middle. i just started using the lamp because ambient temperature was like 78 when only using the under tank heat mat. ive been misting the tank and that brings it up to like 60% humidity but that only last for like an hour and then it drops big time again, to about 35-40%. really not sure what i should do.

You could try moving that water bowl over fully onto the warm side and cover up part of the mesh lid with cling wrap to help keep humidity up. Just make sure the cling wrap isn't under that hot lamp.

We use sterlite tubs and I have to say they are way easier to maintain heat and humidity in.

I'm sure others here that have more experience with glass tanks will offer lots of advice.

thanks alot, im gonna try covering part of the top.

when I had my tank, I struggled with the humidity as well. I had 90 percent of the top covered with saran, and still lost most of the humidity, even right after a spray down. I switched to a plastic tub, and am not looking back. I had to burn more holes into it that I thought to get the humidity down. It also doesn't allow the humidity to fluctuate near as much, it remains pretty constant throughout the day....if you can, make the switch.

Our tubs have quite a lot of holes in them too as especially during August we get really heavy humidity up here. Easy though to block a few holes when the seasons change to get the humidity levels just right.

In my aquariums, I use a tropical fish breeder container with damp moss inside. It keeps my humditty at a consistant 55-60%. I mist it twice daily.
