Ambient Temp Help

Hi guys, I recently asked how you guys heat your snake rooms and most of you said you used oil filled heaters. Well I've just been informed by my father (who I'm currently living with, not a permanent situation) that he doesn't want a heater running all the time especially in the summer with the A/C on.

So now im racking my brain trying to figure out how I can keep the ambient temperatures up in my tubs without the use of a heater. Please keep in mind this room stays at 69 degrees on average, so waaayy too cold. Three of my snakes are in plastic tubs with plastic lids, the other two are in a self made rack. They all have undertank heaters connected to thermostats.

I really need help. I can't move out for a few more months so I need a solution for that time frame.

A heat lamp pointed at the tubs can heat them. I've done that in a pinch several times before.

Also keeping them all in a closet with a lamp on a tstat could work. The lamp should keep the temps up in a small closet. Plenty of people have done that as well.

I wouldn't be opposed to putting them in a closet but I have a weird closet that has built in shelves.. RIP. How large of a heat lamp and where do I find one large enough?

Best thing to do is buy larger than you need and put it on a dimmer or tstat to dial it in.

You should be able to put it on one side of the tubs to give them a boost. I actually put a bulb over one side to create a hotspot and good ambient temps. That was just for one tub though.

I think I would try stacking the tubs and putting the light on one side. You may need two lights for all the tubs you have that need heat.

Shutting the vent will certainly help. If it's metal you can buy a sheet magnet that can go over all or part of it.... If it doesn't close well with the adjuster. I just closed mine completely in my snake room.

I also keep the AC vent closed in my reptile room during the summer. It definitely helps.

Buy a little plastic greenhouse setup and put it over all the snake cages to hold in heat? Close the room up and any vents that are blowing AC.
