not warm enough

okay i have heat wave, terrarium substrate heater from exo terra. 10" x 11" 16 watts.

okay so here's my problem. the temps in my viv are reading 79 degrees. is this going to be warm enough for dexter? the cool side is approx 73 degrees.

i have this stuck right on the plastic rubbermaid container. i'm using an inch or more of aspen shavings.

yes, my temp probe is taped to the bottom of the viv under the aspen.

darn it this heater cost me $35!!!

we have not added a rheostat yet, but if we did, could we make it warmer that way?

Ball pythons need 82-84 on one side, 92-94 on the other ... With temps lower than that, you risk the snake refusing food, having problems digesting food if it does eat, repiratory infection, and possibly mouth rot.

Sounds like you need more powerful undertank heaters.

oh these freakin' probes!!! i called the petstore i bought the UTH from and he suggested i try using one of my fish tank temp to find out if the probe is reading right... well after one minute on the bottom... it was reading 100 degrees!!! stupid probe wasn't giving the right temp!!!

Fish tank temp? ... Is it digital?

Those stick on dials and plastic strips are garbage.

Im with Adam.. Get a digital thermometer with a probe and a thermostat.. A rheostat will allow your temps to flux if your rooms temps are not perfect all the time...

oh i agree completely, i'm going to get another probe... but just double checking the very low temp on the probe... it showed the probe was faulty.

so, off to the store to buy a new one.....
