Quick question about using heat tape
I’m about to build an enclosure for a new Brazilian rainbow boa however I want to use heat tape because it’s cheaper than the heat panels and is cheaper than heat bulbs it will be on the thermostat I do know that. My question is with heat tape if I put plexiglass over the heat tape with the spacer which then I’ll silicone it off so that no water gets on it will that be OK and has anybody done it before. The heat tape will be inside the enclosure.

I would not risk it. BRB's need to be very wet/humid and heat tape is supposed to stay dry. Put the heat tape under the enclosure. Even if the enclosure floor is thick the heat will transmit through it and create a basking spot.

I'm wanting to build my own enclosure out of melamine so I would have a melamine base, then the heat tape with spacers to allow the heat tape to breathe, and then having the plexi-glass on top which would be siliconed to the sides of the enclosure to prevent any type of moisture or humidity from actually reaching the heat tape.

Would the heat tape actually allow to have enough ambient air temp for a 4x2 enclosure? im going to use 1/3 of the dimensions. That would be my only worries is reaching ambient air temps of 85 hot and about 75 cold.

Heat tape doesn't bump up ambient much, even in a rack with tubs that have a much smaller volume of space to heat. In a 4x2 I would use an RHP. How tall is the enclosure?

ETA: by the time you add in the extra plexiglass, which isn't exactly cheap, plus the silicone you may as well spring for an RHP.

I’m doing 14” height. What size rhp should I use? I’ve never used it before.

Bob at pro products can help figure exactly what size you would likely need. Read up on all the info he needs to advise you on panel size at the link below. Another option is Reptile basics RHP probably 40-80watt depending on room conditions, insulation, ventilation, etc.

I might actually go a different way because this is turning out to be very expensive with that radiant heat panel. Is there such thing as a one tub system?

Note the lid has four latches to secure it so your snake can't push its way out easily. Add heat tape, thermostat, substrate, hides, and a water bowl.
