Heat Question!

I just switched from a glass 20L to a 40 gallon Exo Terra cage. During this switch I’m having some issues with ambient temperature. Before I switched to a larger tank I had 90-95 on my hot side going to 75-80 on my cold side. Now in my larger terrarium my hot side only gets up to 80. I have a UTH hooked up to a thermostat set at 95. For ambient temperature I have been using a 100w ceramic heat emitter. Should I go up to 150w ceramic heat emitter to get my ambient temperature up in my larger cage? Or would that be way too much wattage? Please help!

Personally I think those temps are too high. I keep my my hot side usually between 84-88 and my cool side 78-83

I agree...Clare, you want the thermostat set so that it achieves 90* maximum temp. inside the tank (& ONLY on the warm end...NOT the whole tank) & where the
snake can possibly make any contact. Not 95*, that's too hot, your snake can be injured.

You also need to double check (like with an accurate "temp. gun") what the ACTUAL temperatures are inside the tank, not just take the thermostat's "word" for it,
since the actual "inside" temperature may not be the same as (or as high as) what the thermostat is set to.

Thank you both! So many sites say different things so I appreciate your input. I will make sure to get a heat gun so I can check the heat more accurately.
